Meet our class...

Out of this World

For our first Spring topic we have been learning all about space. We have learnt about the planets, star constellations and different astronauts including Neil Armstrong and Mae Jeminson. As a fantastic finish to this topic, we even had a visit from the Astrodome Roadshow.

Chinese New Year

We have been learning all about Chinese New Year. We have made Chinese Dragons, danced like Chinese Dragons, retold the Great Race story with puppets, written in Chinese symbols and learnt about rabbits because it's the year of the rabbit. Our favourite part was trying some Chinese food which was kindly donated by our local Chinese, the Beijing. We tried chow mein, egg fried rice, prawn crackers and sweet and sour chicken.

The Jolly Christmas Postman

The children have really enjoyed reading the Jolly Christmas Postman. We have had a busy week, writing letters and making Christmas cards to post. All children were able to put their letters in their own envelopes and they even got to stick their own stamp on too! They particularly enjoyed going on their first local visit. We finished the week by walking to a local post box and each child patiently waited their turn to put their special letter into the post box. When we returned to school, we watched a video and discussed what will happen to their letters now they have been posted and even enjoyed a hot chocolate and biscuit to warm back up! A week later, we all received a reply from Santa too!

World Nursery Rhyme Week

The children have sung 5 different nursery rhymes his week. They have enjoyed singing them and performing them with actions. As well as this, each day the classroom activities have been focused around the nursery rhyme of the day. To name a few of the activities, children have ordered numbers, compared the size of objects, printed bubble wrap fish, made binoculars, talked about the differences between day and night, learnt about the parts of boats, made a paper plate frog and learnt about amphibians including the life cycle of a frog. It has been a busy, exciting week and to show they have worked hard, every child has been presented with a certificate! Well done Willow class.

The Little Red Hen

We learnt the story Little Red Hen as part of our Literacy learning. We made paper plate red hens and also made our own tasty bread rolls!
