A charity, called Dogs For Development, has been visiting Chase Lane with a group of dogs, specially trained to work with children to develop self-esteem, self-confidence and communication skills. The sessions aim to improve behaviour and social interaction skills whilst enhancing educational engagement.
During the programme, children learn how to communicate effectively in order to ensure the dog completes their instruction. In the first session, a small group of children learned how to calm their dog using hand signals. The children build relationships with the dogs over the course, completing more complicated tasks each week.
The children love their time with the dogs and look forward to it each week.
