Apples & Pears - An Overview

Welcome to Chase Lane Nursery!

Chase Lane Nursery has an intake of two classes of twenty-six children, run by a qualified teacher, with the support of three teaching assistants. Where places permit, children are admitted to the Nursery at the start of the term following the child’s third birthday and will be offered a morning or afternoon place taking parental preference into consideration when possible. Each session is three hours long. There are also supervised pack lunch sessions available at an additional cost.

Our Nursery follows the school's ethos of 'nurturing success'. Success is only achievable in a nurturing and safe environment. First and foremost our Nursery team take pride in ensuring that the children feel happy and safe, while providing them with a variety of adult-led and child-led activities. We really do understand that play is important for all children, no matter what stage of development – and after all, as grown-ups, we like to play too!

We pack a lot into our timetable in Nursery. Activities are carefully planned to provide as many learning opportunities as possible, both inside and outside. There is a library to which the children have open access and weekly loans. We cook each week; go on weekly 'Welly Walks'; have bikes and scooter time on Tuesdays and weekly music sessions with a specialist teacher. We have also recently started computing sessions with a specialist teacher in the main school which is proving a huge success. At least once every half term we hold a 'Family Friday' session in which two adult family members are invited into Nursery to join in with the activities and stay and play with their children to see what they have been learning.

As well as having access to the school's facilities (including the swimming pool in the summer term and specialist teachers) our Nursery is fortunate to have extensive space and facilities of our own. These include a large garden outside complete with mud kitchen and playhouse and a huge indoor space to incorporate all areas of learning and development.

Children's progress is closely monitored throughout their time in Nursery. This takes the form of a learning journey with records of children's achievements alongside photographs demonstrating progress. The children also have access to cameras so they can record achievements they are proud of. This enables us to provide the best opportunities and highest levels of support. This information is shared with families and either transferred to the reception class or the child's new school at the end of the year. We are also fortunate enough to provide additional support for children when necessary including ‘Talk Boost’ for speech and language development and nurture groups for social and emotional development.

We like to think of our Nursery as a home from home – and safe and stimulating environment where children feel happy and loved. It’s often busy, a little bit messy with lots of fun and games thrown in and is a place where children can truly flourish before taking the big step and starting primary school.
